Behind the Scenes
The Denver International Airport’s Gate Expansion Program is a massive infrastructure initiative aimed at increasing the airport’s capacity to meet growing travel demands. Adding 39 new gates across its concourses, this project represents one of the largest expansions in the airport’s history. The expansion triggered the 1% for Public Art Ordinance, which has supported some of Denver’s most iconic public art pieces. This sculpture was the first of four public art installations to be installed. The other 3 artitst include Kipp Kobayashi, Danielle Roney and Benjamin Ball.
The first step in the long public art process is to do a site visit so that when designing every environmental factor can be used in thoughtful creative decision making
Initial sketches and design concepts
Once the final concept was established a maquette sample of the idea was created to help the selection committee understand what the final piece of art would look and feel like.
